Sylvia Gobbel

  • Biography

Growing up in the charming and historically rich city of Vienna, Sylvia first enrolled at university as a law student before she was eventually recognized by a model agent on a tram in Vienna. A few months later she found herself in Paris, the fashion capital of the world, where she had attracted the attention of the well-known agency Marylin. Her outstanding appearance lead to her becoming the favorite model of one of the greatest photographers of that time – and arguably of all times – Helmut Newton, who chose her to feature on the cover of his famous “Big Nudes” picture book.

Henceforth, Sylvia was a regularly booked model for the most well-known photographers and worked together with the likes of Guy Bourdin, Gianpaolo Barbieri, Oliviero Toscani and Peter Lindbergh. Her pictures were a mainstay on the covers of magazines such as Vogue, Elle, Cosmopolitan, Glamour and Marie-Claire. Travelling the world and being fluent in German, English and French, Sylvia ultimately found her home in Paris, where she is currently residing and still working as a model.
