Top model in the 80s & 90s, also dubbed the Catwalk Contessa, she won the Fashion Oscar in Paris for best runway model back in ‘87, working with many of the major photographers, magazines and designers of the time.
A favorite of Alaïa, Versace, Lagerfeld, Chanel, Ferre, Valentino, Kenzo, Montana, Calvin Klein, Oscar de la Renta, Donna Karan etc. she became a Muse to Dolce & Gabbana since they started out.
The long collaboration with Magnum photographer Ferdinando Scianna, with whom she shot the first D&G catalogues and campaigns and various editorial spreads, resulted in the publication of the book Marpessa, in 1993.
Around this time she retired to pursue her interests in interiors, decorating, collecting and photography, living in the country, getting her hands dirty in the soil, renovating properties, tearing down walls, building ‘m up again.
In 2005 she was blessed with her daughter, Ariël.
She lives on the island of Ibiza, in an old finca which she renovated in her typical eclectic style and which serves as a showroom for her interior design business and where she recently has opened Ibiza Day/Night Studio, a one stop venue for photo shoots and productions.
She also is a trusted consultant to high end customers looking to buy property on Ibiza and continues to appear on runways and fashion-spreads.
